Brief History

These are one of the oldest communities in San Francisco. They had contact with the native Ohlone dwellers and the Spanish explorers who came early. Initially, it was an Italian to the southwest of the third street, but currently, it stands at 95% black. Going forward to about 1980, it rose to around 70% black. It was a Chinese shrimp fishing community, but they were evicted to pave the way for military build and the Navy base in preparation for the Second World War.
